Holmfirth, Hathersage & Knaresborough Clinics
Under NHS Right to Choose we offer fully comprehensive assessments of neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. We can also provide cognitive assessments for learning difficulties.
We are an all age assessment service. For Autism we assess from age 3 and for adhd we assess from age 6.
We are an assessment only service, we do not offer medication for ADHD and are not able to advise on which medication would be suitable. However, medication pathways can be provided for your local area if a diagnosis is given.
You must attend your individual appointment face to face, in one of our clinics. All other appointments can be done online or over the phone.
We do assess home-educated children and young people. We would recommend asking another person to complete the pre-assessment information such as an online tutor, extra curricular activity coach or someone that knows your child well.
We know that many individuals learn to ‘mask’ their difficulties. Masking may involve imitating peers, suppressing natural responses, or overcompensating in social or academic situations and will look different dependent on the persons age. We take masking into account by not relying solely on observed behaviour during the assessment. We incorporate detailed developmental history, information from multiple sources (like parents, teachers, or partners), tasks that account for masking and look for signs of internal effort or exhaustion that might indicate compensatory strategies. Our expert team are trained to explore beyond the surface and are able to identify when a person appears outwardly ok but is working really hard to manage or hide their difficulties.
We understand that autism and ADHD can present differently in girls, women, and gender-diverse individuals. We take a gender-informed approach. We look beyond the typical symptoms and consider things like masking, internalized struggles, and social dynamics. We also use a variety of assessment tools and clinical judgment that are sensitive to these differences as well as undertake regular training and shared learning professionals forums so that our clinicians remain up-to-date with the latest findings and research.
Your appointments will take place at either one of our clinics:
The Old Coach House, Daisy Lane, Holmfirth, West Yorkshire
8b Hathersage business Park, Heather Lane, Hathersage, North Derbyshire.
